College of Medicine Dean and VP for Medical Affairs Leaving USA

Dr. John Marymont, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the 茄子视频鈥檚 Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine and vice president for medical affairs, has announced that he will leave South toward the end of the fall semester to assume a senior administrative role as executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the Medical University of South Carolina beginning in December. Marymont joined the University in 2016.

A trained orthopaedic surgeon, Marymont has nearly 30 years of executive experience in major academic medical centers. At the 茄子视频, he oversaw the growth of the Whiddon College of Medicine and the rapid expansion of 茄子视频Health鈥檚 impact on the Gulf Coast region through its three hospitals, cancer institute, freestanding emergency department in west Mobile and dozens of physician practices.
鈥淥ur academic health system would not be where it is today without Dr. Marymont鈥檚 tireless work and advocacy for both the medical school and 茄子视频Health,鈥� said 茄子视频Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Andi Kent. 鈥淚n January 2027, the University will open one of the most advanced college of medicine buildings in the nation 鈥� and John played a pivotal role in turning the vision for a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility into reality.鈥�
A national search for the next dean of the Whiddon College of Medicine will begin this fall.
